Farm grants that are closed: what has gone and what replaced it

Knowing a scheme has closed saves more time than knowing one is open. Here is what is genuinely gone, and where the nearest live alternative is.

All of these show as closed on the gov.uk page Funding for farmers, growers and land managers, last updated 5 August 2026 and re-read on the date at the top of this page.
- Farming Equipment and Technology Fund
- Closed. The page's update history records the closing date being moved to midday on 12 May 2026. The round covered productivity, animal health and welfare and slurry themes at £1,000 to £25,000 per theme, against a £50 million total budget. No further round has been announced.
- Slurry Infrastructure grant, round 2
- Closed. Was £25,000 to £250,000.
- Water Management grant, round 2
- Closed. Was £35,000 to £500,000.
- Improving Farm Productivity grant, round 2
- Closed. Was £25,000 to £500,000 for robotic or automatic equipment and £15,000 to £100,000 for solar photovoltaic systems.
- Adding Value grant
- Closed. Was £25,000 to £300,000.
- Laying Hen Housing for Health and Welfare, round 1
- Closed. The update history records it closing at 11:59pm on 28 April 2026 for invited applicants.
- Calf Housing for Health and Welfare grant
- Closed. Was £15,000 to £500,000.
- Landscape Recovery
- Closed. Paid groups of farmers for long-term, large-scale projects on at least 500 connected hectares.
- SFI 2023 and SFI 2024 (including the re-opened offer)
- Closed to new applications. Existing agreement holders carry on under their own agreement terms, and SFI26 is the live scheme.
Where the nearest live money is
- Kit and machinery: nothing directly equivalent is open. Capital Grants 2026 funds items, not machinery, and only until its budget is allocated.
- Slurry and water infrastructure: nothing directly equivalent is open. Capital Grants 2026 covers water quality, air quality and natural flood management items.
- Livestock housing: nothing open. The animal health and welfare vet reviews are, and they are not building grants.
- Large collaborative land projects: Landscape Recovery is closed; the Farmer Collaboration Fund opens on 1 September 2026 but only delivery partner organisations can apply.
Openings are announced on the Defra Farming Blog before they reach most farming press. Subscribing to it and to the gov.uk email alerts on the funding page is the cheapest early warning available.
